Why was this battle Important?
This was the first battle of the civil war. There were no fatalities or injuries. It was a confederate victory. This war was the start of a very brutal war. It all started when South Carolina Succeded from the union. The confederate soldiers were staying at Fort Sumter. P.G.T Beugaurd sent out aids to Anderson demanding for him to surrender the fort. The say after ANderson refused the Confederates opened fire and didn't stop for another day and a half. Anderson did not fire back for the first two hours. He did not have enough materials to make it an equal fight. Union Capt. Abner Doubleday first the first shots from the Union. Firing did not stop till Anderson surrended the fort. Although they had to surrender, they were greeted as heros on their return up North.
